Make a magical entrance on your wedding day with one of these perfect processional wedding songs to walk down the aisle to.

The moment you walk down the aisle is likely to be the most memorable and incredible part of your entire big day. If you’re sticking to the traditional running order, it’ll be the moment you first see all of your guests and they get to see you in all your big day glory.

You’ll also lay eyes on your soon-to-be husband or wife and it marks the last few moments of your life before you become a married couple. Choosing the right music to match this magical moment is really important as it’ll set the tone for the entire day and can help sum up how you feel about saying “I do” to the love of your life.

How Do You Pick a Song To Walk Down The Aisle To?

Songs To Walk Down The Aisle To In Wedding couple walking down the aisle 1

A lot of couples choose romantic wedding songs to reflect this very heart-warming ceremony, but there’s no rule to say you have to choose a love song when you’re walking down the aisle. You might want to opt for something a little more quirky and unique to you or perhaps something funny and tongue-in-cheek if you’re known as a couple who loves to have a laugh.

If you like a particular wedding song but prefer not to have words, you can often find beautiful instrumental versions for your entrance song too and, of course, classical music works extremely well for elegant ceremonies.

You may already have “your entrance song” and know instinctively what you’ll be walking down the aisle to. However, if you’ve no particular preferences or have no idea where to start when choosing such a special wedding song you’ll find a helpful list below of perfect processional (when you walk down the aisle) and recessional songs (when you walk back down the aisle as a married couple).

Things To Look Out For In a Wedding Entrance Song

It’s not simply just a case of finding a wedding song that you both love. There are certain qualities that make some wedding songs far superior to others when it comes to wedding ceremonies. The most important of these is the tempo/ pace of the piece of music.

Walking down the aisle, isn’t like walking down the street. You’ll want to savour every step and let all your guests get a glimpse of your gorgeous wedding dress (or suit) so the each step will be much slower than your usual gait. Choosing a nice slow wedding song will help you remember to walk slowly.

If you’ve found a wedding song and practised walking to it, but it feels too fast, search for instrumental/ acoustic versions which are usually slower. Or ask your on-the-day musician to play it nice and slowly.

Also, have a think about the length of the music. It’s key to know in advance the best point in the music to start walking so you don’t just have the long intro playing and none of the main part of the song for example. Think about when you want it to end/ fade too, so you’re not awkwardly standing at the altar/ ceremony table waiting for the music to finish.

You should also bear in mind the wedding song choices you’ll be making for when guests arrive and are waiting for your entrance as you may want to ensure the tone and style remains the same. It could be a bit of a shock for guests to go straight from gentle harp music to a heavy metal wedding song as you enter the ceremony space (although it would certainly make them take notice!).
