The feel

Boconnoc is a haven of tranquility. Once you arrive you will feel as though time is standing still as the beauty and magic of this unique estate unveils before you.

The estate has a fascinating history. Through the centuries, Boconnoc has been associated with many of this country’s famous names and history-makers including Lord Russell, Earl of Bedford who sold Boconnoc in 1579 to Sir William Mohun who rebuilt it. Later, Thomas Pitt purchased the estate with the proceeds of the famous Pitt Diamond in 1717, which he sold to the Regent of France where it ended up in the hilt of Napoleon’s sword. Pitt’s grandson, William, became Prime Minister and his great-grandson was Pitt the Younger. Eventually, the estate was bequeathed to the Fortescue family who still own it.

This beautiful wedding village is the ideal location for couples looking to find a unique and hidden location in Cornwall and lies at the end of a sweeping drive through magnificent parkland. There is a church next to the house, a civil ceremony room in the Stable Yard and accommodation on site for up to 20 guests. For those who do not wish to partake in any discussions of who will drive home, this is especially beneficial!

Your drinks reception can be held on the lawns, under the crab apple tree looking across the park to the lake. Garden furniture is available to hire and you can set up your own games on the lawns like croquet and cricket. A string quartet or a steel band add to the magical atmosphere. Alternatively your drinks reception can be held in the Drawing Room, one of the four reception rooms in the house.

The wedding breakfast is held in the light and airy Garden Room, with windows on three sides looking across the gardens and down the valley. This room seats 110 guests but an additional marquee can be attached to one end across the terrace, which can seat up to 240 guests.

The Panelled Room and Smoking Room can be used for your bar area and dancing, and the Drawing Room offers a place to relax and talk in front of the fire, after dinner.

We have a suggested suppliers list of caterers, marquee companies, photographers, florists and all the essentials to create an exquisite celebration and we can provide you with advice and ideas on the planning of your day.

There are endless photographic opportunities on the Estate, including in front of the house, by the lake, in the gardens or on the 18th century painted staircase.

Boconnoc is a haven for those who come with their own vision and ideas of how they wish their wedding day to be, creating their own personal magic in the existing spaces. We also love to share our experience and knowledge, advising couples and families on what works best.
