If you’re reading this while considering holding your wedding in Largs – and we hope that’s the case – you may take inspiration from another momentous event that occurred in this fine old seaside town: the conference that agreed on Normandy as the D Day site took place here. There are rather more romantic associations to tempt you too, not least the town’s setting on the Firth of Clyde, with some beautiful hills sheltering it (the town’s name is a corruption of the Gaelic for ‘slopes’) and the occasional steamer calling in to complete a decidedly pretty picture. As a popular little resort Largs has a history of welcoming visitors (though it probably wasn’t as keen on the Vikings who arrived for their own sort of party in the 13th century), and one particular part of that experience over decades is something to be enjoyed before, after (even during?) your big day – the celebrated Nardini’s ice cream. And lastly, you may well feel it is a lucky place – a local couple after all did win £161 million on the Euromillions lottery here in 2011. Now that would pay for a hell of a reception!
