The feel

The Great North Museum: Hancock was purpose built in Newcastle as a natural history museum in 1884 to house the growing collections of the Natural History Society of Northumbria.

Create a truly memorable day for you and your partner, as well as friends and family, by holding your wedding ceremony or reception with us at the Great North Museum: Hancock. So whether you choose an intimate service overlooking the museum’s T-Rex, an extravagant celebration for hundreds in the Special Exhibition Space, or a summer drinks reception in the Clore suite and patio, you can find the perfect space here.

The Special Exhibition Space is a large open plan room with fresh white walls and wooden floors. This space is a blank canvas ready to be dressed in a theme that represents you.

Measuring almost 500 square metres, this is an ideal space for civil ceremonies, wedding breakfasts and evening receptions. This space can be partitioned into three separate areas offering you great flexibility and can accommodate up to 500 guests.

For an unrivalled location, why not host your dinner or reception for up to 120 guests alongside an elephant and a great white shark in the fantastic, double height Living Planet Gallery?

The Clore suite offers you and your guests a versatile arrangement of space suitable for civil ceremonies, wedding breakfasts and small evening receptions. The larger Clore suite opens onto a spacious patio with a raised pond and planted area providing an ideal location for a summer drinks reception. These rooms can be used individually or interlinked to create a large space.

Hadrian wall gallery can create an exciting and unique atmosphere for ceremonies. You can even get married looking onto a T-rex.

Hadrian’s Wall gallery has an interactive model of the Wall which enables visitors to discover the detailed history of this amazing fortification as well as finding out about all the forts, milecastles and associated museums that can be visited today. The gallery includes a wealth of archaeological finds.

Natural Northumbria can create an exciting and unique atmosphere for ceremonies and drinks receptions. You can discover what makes the North East region special in terms of the animals and plants as well as paying a ‘virtual’ visit to a number of sites in the area.
