Formerly an award winning family run gastro pub, it provides delicious food and exceptional service in a stunning location. Whether you are planning a large wedding with up to 120 guests or a more intimate celebration, The Compasses offers you the chance to create your perfect day.

The Compasses offers a spectacular selection of quality food. Every dish is created using the finest, fresh, locally sourced ingredients. Whether you’d love a simple British classic like bangers and mash, or fancy a five-course gourmet tasting menu to complement your big day, we can create a menu to suit you.

Every wedding at the venue is a bespoke celebration, tailored to you. We offer an unrivalled level of service and attention to detail and our dedicated wedding co-ordinator is on hand throughout the day, to ensure your wedding dreams are turned into a reality. Brides can also take advantage of our fabulous Bridal Preparation Suite, where the bridal party can get ready in style. With a four seat hair and makeup bar, full length mirrors and a comfy seating area, it’s the perfect place to relax and prepare before the ceremony. We always strive to provide everything you need, from teepees in the garden, to a cosy celebration by a roaring log fire; we look forward to hearing your ideas.

Your day at The Compasses will be an exclusive event. You and your guests can enjoy full, private use of the venue for a wonderful, intimate occasion.

Available to brides from 10am on the day of the Wedding, our Bridal Preparation Suite includes a hair & makeup bar for four and a cosy seating area where the bridal party can relax and prepare for the day ahead. There are even sumptuous food and beverage packages available to pre-order for brides who are looking to start their celebrations in style!

The venue is conveniently located for travelling guests, set just off the A120 between Colchester and Braintree and just 20 minutes from Stansted Airport.

Can we reserve a date without paying a deposit?

You are welcome to hold a date for up to seven days without paying a deposit. During this time we guarantee not to offer that date to any other couples.

Will we have exclusive use of the venue?

Yes, you will have exclusive use of the venue and garden for the entirety of your wedding day.

We are worried that our day will be split up into separate rooms?

We don’t like to ‘split the party’! The Compasses at Pattiswick offers an open plan layout that enables you to have the dancing in the same area as the wedding breakfast. We keep one of our bars separate and quiet which allows a space for those who might need it such as mothers with infants. Or the older generation wanting to escape the noise!

How can we arrange to view the venue?

Please either ring us on 01376 561322 by using the contact form to the right. We offer personal viewings by appointment seven days a week – subject to weddings and events taking place. We do ask that you do not visit without an appointment as we are unable to conduct viewings if we have a wedding taking place.
