Rutherglen sits at the southern edge of Glasgow, but it has its own very distinct history and identity, made a royal burgh in the 12th century, and a major centre for industry in the 19th and 20th. These days its proximity to Glasgow has made it a dormitory town for that larger neighbour, though there is plenty of traffic flowing in the other direction too. Couples marrying here should leaf through Midge Ure’s back catalogue, the non-knighted one educated in the area – how about ‘That Certain Smile’, or ‘Forever and Ever’?
