The feel
The Old Quay House is a former seamen’s mission that has been brought back to life as a boutique luxury hotel, set on the waterfront in the picturesque town of Fowey on the south Cornish coast. The whitewashed Victorian building looks out over the Fowey estuary and is ideally located within the town, close to the many boutiques, galleries and cafés. The hotel offers accommodation in 11 luxurious bedrooms, each with an individual style and all with big comfy beds so guests can be sure of a good night’s sleep after plenty of fresh sea air. Several of the rooms have small balconies and most have views out across the water so guests can even lie in bed and watch the boats drift by. The Penthouse is a real romantic treat – the bright lounge has a comfy sofa and floor to ceiling windows from which to enjoy the view, while the free-standing claw foot bathtub in the bedroom adds a touch of decadence.
The Old Quay House also boasts an acclaimed restaurant ‘Q’, which offers a creative menu of contemporary dishes, prepared using the finest local and seasonal produce, served in a relaxed setting overlooking the estuary. The restaurant leads out onto a spacious terrace where on sunny days guests can enjoy afternoon tea, a long and lazy lunch or a pre-dinner drink, while life on the water unfolds.
The Fowey Estuary is a beautiful backdrop for a wedding and at The Old Quay House couples can either marry in the main dining room or out on the waterfront terrace. For a very intimate ceremony the Penthouse is also available for parties of 10 or fewer. The Old Quay House is an ideal venue for a smaller wedding, and is available on an exclusive use basis with accommodation for up to 22 guests (including the Penthouse for the happy couple). The restaurant can seat 38 guests for a sit-down meal or 70 for waiter-served canapés.
Throughout the planning the hotel’s expert wedding co-ordinator will ensure that every detail is perfect, from the food and drink to the cake, photographer, hairdresser and more. The wedding co-ordinator and talented chef will work with couples to create a bespoke menu that is perfect for the occasion, with plenty of local and seasonal produce to give guests a real taste of Cornwall.
Fowey and the surrounding area offers plenty to keep guests occupied while the couple prepare for their big day, from shopping and browsing in galleries to coastal walks and visits to nearby National Trust properties, historic gardens and the incredible Eden Project.
