Sophie & Ben

Best day of our lives wedding at The Kingscote Barn

Sophie & Ben

Sophie and Ben’s winter wedding was nothing short of magical – a celebration filled with intention, personality, and the kind of joy you can’t quite put into words. Held on a crisp January day, their wedding felt like the perfect balance of elegance and warmth, where every detail had been carefully considered yet the atmosphere remained completely relaxed and full of love. From the very beginning of their journey together, it was clear this day would be something truly special.

Their story began with a romantic proposal in Thailand, setting the tone for a wedding that would be both heartfelt and unforgettable. That same sense of intimacy carried through to their choice of venue, where light-filled spaces, beautiful surroundings, and a genuinely supportive team created the ideal backdrop for their celebration. Every element reflected not only their vision, but also the trust they placed in the people around them – resulting in a day that felt seamless from start to finish.

With a clear vision and meticulous planning (including not one but two detailed wedding day planners), Sophie and Ben created a celebration that was as thoughtful as it was stylish. Their pearl-inspired theme added a soft, contemporary elegance throughout – from delicate details woven into the décor to statement installations that transformed the space. Yet, beyond the styling and structure, it was the moments that mattered most: dancing hand in hand, surrounded by their favourite people, and fully present in the joy of it all.

Five words that describe the wedding

Best day of our lives

About the engagement

Ben proposed on our first night in Thailand. It was late into the night having taken a drink back to our room after dinner. We were sat on the edge of our pool playing 20 questions (Sophie had been wondering why Ben was suddenly so keen to play). Ben’s questions got increasingly romantic before he got on one knee and finally asked “Would you marry me?”. At first Sophie thought he was pulling her leg until Ben showed her the ring with shaky hands and then she said “YES!”. A kiss, a cry, and a skinny dip later, we were engaged!

About the venue and what made it special

Kingscote just ticked all the boxes for us. From a light and airy ceremony space, to lots of onsite accommodation, to beautiful spots for photos. Most importantly, we had nothing but positive experiences with every single member of staff. They were kind and always helpful, utterly amazing people.

The planning journey

Sophie is very type-A. So there was a spreadsheet from the offset tracking all aspects of the wedding from venue options to budget to purchases to guest lists. This was incredibly helpful to have throughout the planning journey and has already been passed onto other couples getting married after us. The best bit of planning we did was make a wedding day planner, two of them to be precise! These contained all the details of our wedding so that if there were any questions or issues on the day our coordinator and vendors could consult these first for answers rather than coming to ask us. This meant we enjoyed our day undisturbed and (to our knowledge) without any hiccups!
It was stressful at times. Tears were shed (especially when Sophie spotted spelling mistakes on the seating chart). But the planning efforts were all worth it. And we couldn’t have pulled it off without the amazing support of our venue coordinators and vendors throughout our journey, who offered great advice and graciously answered all manner of odd questions and requests.

Style and decor details

The theme was pearls, which we carried through all the way from the invites to the room decor. There were pearls everywhere! Hanging off the tables, sewn into the tulle table runners, embellished on the candles, and even on some studded on the calla lily petals. We also had big white tulle bows on tension rods in the archways and a huge signage display, consisting of a large arch mirror with board signs either side, illuminated by sconce lamps.

The favourite moment of the day

Dancing together to our favourite music with our friends and family around us.

Advice to other couples planning their wedding

As much as possible throughout the day, don’t let go of each other. This was the best advice we ever received and we were so glad we followed it.
