There is not really much evidence these days of the agriculture that gave Sutton its name in Anglo-Saxon times – it means south farm – though Sutton Garden Suburb has plenty of green space on view. This is an urban area, with the energy and the amenities that such a status implies – good restaurants and bars are not hard to find, and there are excellent retail facilities for friends who left gift-buying very late. Solid Victorian and Edwardian architecture dominate the cityscape here, though dotted around are some older structures including St Nicholas’s Church, and to add a bit of quirky to your pictures (with a cooperative photographer) there is some fine modern public art by way of contrast.
