Venue types in Newport

It definitely fits the wedding venue bill that Newport in Shropshire has a fine record in the Britain in Bloom contest – time your event right and your own floral splendour will have local colour to back it up. The town itself is a great backdrop to a wedding, the uncommonly wide high street (the lucky result of an unlucky occurrence – the Great Fire of Newport in the 17th century) possessing some fine Georgian and Regency frontages.
Though Newport is pretty much your archetypal country market town – and a somewhat posh one to boot – it is also home to a higher education establishment with all the benefits in terms of energy (and nightlife) that comes with such a status – and as this is the very upmarket Harper Adams University College, where gentleman and lady farmers learn their craft, you can hope to find this is rather more real ale and decent claret than cheap cider and shots.
Speaking of matters gustatory, add a local flourish to your wedding breakfast menu with one of the several artisan cheeses made in the town – Newport, made with unpasteurised cows’ milk , or its smoked version Newport 1665 (the date of the great fire – oh the scamps). Better that than the river fish for which it was once famous – supplying the court in the Middle Ages. Told you it was posh.
