7 Wedding Venues in Montrose found
Sadly for romantics the story that Montrose’s name is a contraction of Mount of Roses is probably mythical. The town did produce a real figure of romance, however, in James Marquis of Montrose, a bold soldier sacrificed needlessly by Charles II in a test of Cromwell’s strength in Scotland. A port of some significance that was once a major trader with the Hanseatic League, it benefits from having a four-square-mile basin behind the town and entered by a narrow gap. There is a fine beach too, great for moonlit walks – when the weather cooperates, and the town has an artistic leaning with many sculptures adorning its streets.
