8 Wedding Venues in Melrose found

Scotland’s greatest writer of romances, Sir Walter Scott, made his home just outside Melrose, a town that was important to him – his father used to bring the young Walter here, and he describes its beautiful (long ruined) abbey wonderfully well in his Lay of the Last Minstrel. The town’s setting by the turning Tweed, with hills overlooking it north and south, and more beyond the river valley, would inspire anyone to romantic thoughts, the woodlands reaching up the Eildon Hills to the southeast particularly lovely. A place to appeal to those with Scottish blood or sympathies – Robert the Bruce is buried in the abbey.
