It speaks volumes that arguably the finest British poet of the 20th century, Dylan Thomas, should have been content to settle in Laugharne for what turned out to be the last few years of his life. Those marrying here may wish to incorporate some words of his work in their speeches, perhaps aptly: ‘Though lovers be lost love shall not; And death shall have no dominion.’ This is a scenic spot, blending Victorian solidity and Georgian elegance with some older structures like its ruined castle, the place looking out over the estuary of the River Taf and beyond it Carmarthen Bay, a fine setting to celebrate your nuptials – though go easier on the celebration aspect than Thomas did.
