Lanark has been a significant town since medieval times, developed by the monarchy as a base for trade (and a civilising influence on the Celtic population). It is a solid sort of place, rooted, not bad qualities to have as the backdrop for a wedding and future marriage, but unusually perhaps it is overshadowed in terms of beauty by its younger offspring, New Lanark, developed by a philanthropic mill-owner. The romantic will wish to venture a look at the Falls of Clyde, a marvellous sight nearby.
