Venue types in Knutsford

As Knutsford has the most expensive houses in Northern England, you pretty much know that it is going to be a rather refined and even posh sort of place. There is more than a touch of romance about it too in the ancient May Day custom of ‘sanding the streets’ observed in the town for some 400 years: the legend has it that King Canute, or Knut, forded the River Lily here (hence Knutsford), and when emptying his footwear afterwards strew sand in front of a wedding procession, wishing the happy couple as many children as there were grains of sand (perhaps more welcome then than now!). These days the locals create patters with lines of sand – there’s an idea in this for any creative wedding planner!
