The map of the area around Hindhead looks like it’s been sprayed with the red letters NT, meaning of course National Trust, the numbers evidencing the scenic qualities of the village and its surrounds – not least The Devil’s Punchbowl, a wooded beauty spot that has benefitted from rerouting of traffic in recent times. It’s a rather posh place these days, with some famous faces to be spotted in the neighbourhood, happily rather different from its 18th century self when highway robbery was the local specialty.
