The village of Hever, or rather the parish, comprises three separate smaller settlements, each with a church and each near the River Eden, which seems somehow propitious. The most celebrated element of the place, however, is Hever Castle, possibly the birthplace and certainly the childhood home of that tragic figure of romance and history Anne Boleyn, through her passing to Henry VIII. Restored and aggrandized by William Waldorf Astor in the early years of the last century it is a beautiful building, in rather fine surroundings too. So celebrate your wedding here in Hever and walk in the footsteps of Tudor royalty and the fabulously wealthy who frequented the district in Astor’s day.
