Hampstead has a very rare quality, in that while very much a part of the metropolis, and with its own excellent cultural and hospitality facilities, it somehow manages to retain a village feel. That quality is enhanced of course by the district’s famous heath, one of London’s highest points thus affording some marvellous views of the city. As somewhere to consider for your wedding Hampstead has many virtues to recommend it, not least the atmosphere that blends its artistic and cultivated past – Keats, Delius, Byron and Dickens just four big names it can drop – and its liberal intellectual present (rather well-heeled liberal intellectuals these days, something of a contrast to the interwar years when it was home to refugees from tyrannies of the left and right). The architecture likewise mixes the historic and the modern, with some absolutely stunning buildings – examples of which we’re proud to say feature in our list of wedding venues. As part of the capital, with both tube and overground stations, this is somewhere that guests can access with ease – and somewhere they’ll enjoy coming to, with far more class and community than hectic commerce about it.
