The pretty market town of Eye is close to the border with Norfolk, but very much a Suffolk space as the occasional pink-washed cottage testifies. There are plenty of flint walls about too to emphasize the East Anglian setting. And it’s a fine setting too, with a small ruined castle atop a mound to provide a dramatic backdrop to some views, thatched roofs, its Tudor Guildhall, and the soaring tower of the Church of St Peter and St Paul. The town is a quiet one, though thriving well enough, and the countryside is quieter still – almost a place of refuge, with the bonus that you can hope nerves will endure less stress and strain in such a spot
