Given the wealth of historic sites and settlements in and around the town, including several links to the Cistercian order, it seems odd that Cwmbran is officially a new town, designated thus (and thereafter greatly extended) in 1949. The countryside around Cwmbran is, as would logically be expected, very Welsh, with no lack of hills of riverside (and canalside too actually), a green and growing sort of place. If you’re looking for a nice quirky touch for your wedding here, by the way, then you just have to incorporate as welcome snacks or creatively in your menu either Wagon Wheels or Jammie Dodgers, which are made locally. Your younger relatives will be happier if you use both (but be ready for older ones to reminisce that the chocolaty wafers used to be, or seem, bigger).
