Though officially a village Cuckfield – the ‘u’ in the name pronounced with a long ‘oo’ sound by the way – is halfway to being a town, and a market town at that, with some of the advantages of each. There’s a pleasant High Street, where once 50 coaches stopped on their way between the coast and London – and a medieval church complete with pretty lych gates, and not one but two grand Elizabethan mansions on the outskirts. As a wedding venue it again has two sides to offer: though just a 15-minute drive from the end of the M23 it is definitely rural, so easy to access and a million miles from hectic urban and metropolitan environments.
