Charmouth may only be a small place but beneath its demure exterior there is plenty of romantic history to be discovered. Our most dashing monarch, Charles II, hid in the village when evading capture after the Battle of Worcester; and one of our most tragic Queens, Catherine of Aragon, spent time here. So too did Jane Austen, who loved the place, a resort of some elegance since the 18th century thanks to its fine views over Lyme Bay and genteel old houses, visitors in her time brought by the many coaches that passed along the coast. A place then for a wedding of some style.
