The Bloomsbury set were perhaps more rampant than romantic, but the area that gave the often tedious grouping of upper-class artists their name undoubtedly has its own romantic atmosphere, the at once homely and magnificent – and very exclusive – garden squares for which it is known bringing a touch of the country to central London. These days the district houses many academic institutions and museums, so the cultural air remains, perhaps rather more demotic than in Virginia Woolf’s day. The place for a cultured wedding with that elusive quality charm.
