7 Wedding Venues in Bishop Auckland found

The town of Bishop Auckland owes its name and significance to Norman days when the Bishop of Durham had a palace in the district. Bishops Park, the 18th century Gatehouse and St Andrew’s Church, the largest in County Durham, all owe their origins to Durham’s bishops, and it is interesting to note that the house here was preferred to the castle at Durham by one of the earliest of those clerics because of the excellence of the countryside – and the entertainment, notably the hunting. As a wedding venue Bishop Auckland offers among other benefits some very fine old buildings in and around the settlement itself, a sense of history – for example Charles I stayed here three times, once put up in a pub – and the famous friendliness of its townsfolk.
