The feel

The White Hart at Lydgate is a privately owned venue, situated in the picturesque village of Lydgate, close to Saddleworth. With fabulous views across the Pennines, The White Hart is the perfect venue for a country-style wedding and offers everything you need for your special day. No matter the time of year and whether you’re interested in an intimate or more elaborate celebration, The White Hart has a fantastic wedding coordinator and team who will be on hand to help and advise every step of the way.

The venue has enjoyed a rich and varied history, since it was built in 1788 by local landowner John Buckley. From being the local police station and a schoolhouse, to a weaver’s cottage and a look-out point in World War Two, The Buckley family eventually sold the pub in 1921 to the Gartside Brewery and it remained brewery-owned until 1987. In June 1994, Charles Brierley bought the freehold of The White Hart Inn and has extended and renovated the pub, turning it into the award-winning venue it is today.

The White Hart offers couples four licensed rooms for a ceremony, wedding breakfast and reception:

The Library

The smallest of the rooms, The Library features high ceilings and oak beams, making it a perfect setting for an intimate wedding. It can cater from two to 55 guests for a civil ceremony and for a wedding breakfast of up to 36 guests.

The Dining Room

Refurbished in 2015, The Dining Room offers a modern setting for couples. Catering up to 80 guests for a ceremony, 55 guests for a wedding breakfast and 90 guests for an evening reception, The Dining Room allows couples to host their big day all in one room!

The Oak Room & Pavilion

The Oak Room was built in 2005 using green oak timbers and features its own private entrance as well as a stunning vaulted ceiling. The Pavilion is available for outdoor ceremonies and with the use of both rooms, your guests will flow effortlessly from ceremony to reception drinks and the wedding breakfast. The Oak Room can cater up to 180 guests for a wedding breakfast and 230 for an evening reception.

St Anne’s Church

If you’d prefer a church ceremony, The White Hart is ideally located just opposite the beautiful church, St Anne’s Lydgate, which gives a warm welcome to all.

The White Hart also boasts top class service, a talented head chef for catering and onsite accommodation! Housing 16 rooms in total, with 12 in the main building and four family suites in The Cottage located just next door to the venue, each room comes complete with WiFi and are individually furnished with cottage-style décor, beautifully styled bathrooms and king size beds.
