The feel

Imagine a historic Tudor mansion set amidst seven glorious acres of grounds tucked away behind a Medieval gatehouse and moat? In a stunning part of the East Sussex countryside, lies the beautiful Michelham Priory which has all this and more, including its Elizabethan Barn, just perfect for wedding receptions. The barn can host up to 130 guests for a wedding breakfast and party, has a spectacular vaulted, beamed ceiling filled fairy lights, a bar and both a courtyard garden at the front and private lawns overlooking the moat behind.

The extensive grounds on the estate include a kitchen, physic and medieval herb garden, orchard, formal and informal lawns and wilder areas that are rich in biodiversity. Michelham Priory has a wedding licence for civil ceremonies allowing couples to choose from a range of locations from the Priory Chamber, in the Tudor house itself (up to 60 guests), the Elizabethan Great Barn or even on the lawns for an alfresco affair.

Michelham Priory’s stunning Grade I listed Elizabethan Barn has a breath-taking vaulted ceiling with original oak beams which are swagged throughout with beautiful fairy lights. The perfect depiction of a Sussex barn, it has glass-fronted windows and doors looking onto a private courtyard on one side with pretty festoon lights and outside seating, and its own private walled garden on the other perfect for lawn games and watching the sun set over the moat, drink in hand. The Barn is ideal for ceremonies and receptions of up to 130.

Michelham Priory offers weddings all year round and The Great Barn includes heating system, so is perfect for Winter Weddings.

Ceremonies, drinks and wedding photographs for smaller weddings for up to 60 can also be hosted in the Tudor Priory itself.
