The feel

Friars Carse, a baronial castle-like property, is south west Scotland’s premier wedding venue with historical links to the poet Robert Burns.

Hidden along a private drive, Friars Carse offers peace and tranquility within 45 acres of farm and woodland, and located beside the River Nith in beautiful rural Dumfriesshire countryside. Friars Carse is the perfect setting for riverside ceremonies or inside using the oak-panelled lounge.

The fully heated permanent marquee, adjacent to the house, accommodates in the region of 150 guests for a sit-down meal, and up to 200 for an evening celebration. The Marquee has its own bar and toilets, outside decking area, and space for a traditional ceilidh, band or disco, with impressive star-cloth lighting for evening receptions.

For more intimate weddings, the Nith Room, overlooking the lawn and river, can accommodation up to 30 guests. The historic Whistle Restaurant may be used for wedding celebrations or private functions seating up to 50, with countryside views towards the Robert Burns heritage centre at Ellisland Farm.Exclusive Use is possible for Weddings and private House Parties, and offers a traditional Scottish Menu with locally-sourced cuisine suitable for weddings and other celebrations. Friars Carse has a long experience of welcoming guests from overseas from every corner of the world, and can assist with the planning of special occasions.

Friars Carse has its own fishing rights, plus Golf, Shooting, and other outdoor pursuits are available nearby, making Friars Carse the perfect venue for any celebration or corporate event.

Guests may be accommodated in 21 ensuite bedrooms, one of which is the 4-poster Honeymoon Suite with double Jacuzzi bath. There are also two self-catering cottages located in the grounds.

Friars Carse is easily accessible, just a 10 minute drive from the regional town of Dumfries; 65 miles from Glasgow and Edinburgh, and a short distance from the renowned Gretna Green and the English border.
