The feel

Getting married? We’d like to propose something a little different.

Discovery Museum is housed in the old Co-operative Wholesale Society building, Blandford House. Opening in 1899, it quickly became an iconic building in Newcastle city centre. Blandford House became a museum in 1978 and was re-launched as Discovery Museum in 1993.

Here at Discovery Museum we can offer you and your guests something truly unique and unlike any other venue in Newcastle upon Tyne.

Join us here for your ceremony, drinks reception, wedding breakfast, or all three. We have a variety of spaces to choose from, so you can choose the perfect atmosphere to celebrate your special day.

The Great Hall is our magical art-deco space at the top of the museum and is one of the building’s original features. It has capacity for up to 350 guests and can be transformed into a stunning setting for ceremonies, wedding breakfasts and evening receptions.

The grandeur of the Great Hall and proximity to Newcastle city centre makes Discovery Museum a unique choice for wedding celebrations.

The museum galleries can also be hired during your wedding for a drinks reception or alternative space for your wedding breakfast.

The Science Maze held Discovery Museum’s first ever wedding when it featured on BBC’s Don’t Tell the Bride in November 2011. The space can be transformed for ceremonies and guests have the opportunity to play on the numerous interactive exhibits.

The space can also be used to host a unique and intimate ceremony, drinks reception or wedding breakfast.

The Turbinia Cafe overlooks the Story of the Tyne gallery and can be used for more intimate wedding breakfasts, drinks and evening receptions as well as smaller wedding ceremonies. It can accommodate guest lists of up to 100.

The Turbinia Atrium is home to Turbinia, once the fastest ship in the world. The Turbina atrium is licenced to hold ceremonies for up to 100 guests. Alternatively you can dine alongside Turbinia or hold your drinks reception here whilst having photographs around the museum before a wedding breakfast in the Great Hall.
