The feel

The Assembly Rooms is one of Bath’s most prestigious venues and has been at the heart of the city’s social life since the 18th century.

Designed by John Wood the Younger in 1769 this fine set of public rooms was purpose built for a particular eighteenth century form of entertainment: the assembly. When they were completed in 1771, they were described as ‘ the most noble and elegant of any in the kingdom’.

Each of the four rooms – the Great Octagon, Tea Room, Ball Room and Card Room – had a specific purpose, as their names suggest, but they could all adapt for other functions, as they still do today. Guests can move easily, behind closed doors, from room to room throughout the day. There is a small formal garden, well suited to drinks receptions. The world-renowned Fashion Museum, located on the lower ground floor can be a welcome distraction between other activities.

FAQs

Who are your caterers?
Searcys, our caterers at the Assembly Rooms, cater in a number of prestigious venues including The Gherkin, The Barbican and Blenheim Palace and have been established since 1847. With their delicious and flexible menus, Searcys can cater to a variety of tastes and budgets, from fantastic contemporary bowl food to a seated three course dinner. They are also happy to put together a bespoke package tailored to your specific needs.
Can we choose our own band, florist etc?
With the exception of catering, you can choose your own suppliers at the Assembly Rooms, as long as they meet our terms and conditions. See our suppliers list for suggestions.
