Anne of Cleves House

The feel

Hidden away in the quaint Southover area of Lewes, Anne of Cleves House offers couples peace, intimacy and romance away from the hectic pace of everyday life.

Granted to Anne of Cleves by King Henry VIII, the building has a long and colourful history. From its early days as a lodging house for pilgrims to its present role as a historic house and museum, Anne of Cleves House has been providing a warm welcome to visitors for over six hundred years. A truly unique venue steeped in character and charm, Anne of Cleves invites you to share your day with us and to add your own page to the houses long and colourful story.

The East Room with its original oak beams, brick tile floor and huge medieval fireplace offers the perfect romantic setting for your civil ceremony. Flowers add to the atmosphere in summer and in the winter a log fire burns, lending a warm glow to the room. Making Anne of Cleves House truly the perfect venue for a wedding any day of the year.

An audience of up to fifty guests may share in your day, seated in rows facing the top table where couples exchange their vows. The peaceful and colourful Tudor inspired garden behind the house provides an unforgettable backdrop for your wedding photographs.

Bookings for wedding ceremonies last for an hour and a half which includes ample time for your guests to arrive and be seated before the ceremony takes place and for time afterwards in the adjoining garden for drinks and photographs. Additional time may be added if you wish to stay a little longer or even have your whole wedding reception here with us feasting and dance the day way.

Our friendly and attentive staff team are on hand the whole time and will ensure your wedding day is as perfect as you dreamed it would be.
