We trust that your own marriage fares rather better than that of one of Rochford’s most celebrated residents, Mary Boleyn, sister of the ill-fated Anne, who lived in the beautiful Rochford Hall at the end of her life. ..Show More

Mary’s affections were directed more to Henry VIII than to her first husband, though the king of course was fickle – it’s said he first saw Anne at St Andrew’s Church here, and the rest as they say is history (of a somewhat bloody sort). The town’s location only 40 miles or so from London makes the capital near enough and far away enough at once, with excellent train services to the metropolis if needed, and the smaller town even its own airport, though it is actually called London-Southend, once England’s third busiest and these days booming again, and an attractive option for a quick and relaxed getaway on honeymoon. ..Show Less
