Going to a wedding soon and want to buy the happy couple a special gift that they’ll never forget? Here are 30 thoughtful wedding gifts for every budget.
You’ve got your wedding outfit sorted, your accommodation’s booked and the excitement is building for your friend’s or family member’s impending big day. There’s just once last thing to do… buy a present for the soon-to-be-married couple.
Trying to find the perfect gift that sums up how happy you are for the bride(s)/ groom(s) but doesn’t completely blow the budget is no mean feat though. Do you go classic with a photo frame or champagne glasses?
Are you looking for something unique like a personalised bench or piece of art? Or perhaps the couple has everything they need and you’d like to give them an experience they can enjoy. Take time to think about the couple – their loves (travel, interiors, food, gardening), what they do in their spare time and where they live, before you decide on a gift.
Give some thought to how much you’d like to spend on them too. Once you’re armed with these details it’s time to get shopping, and we’ve made that part easy, with our edit of the best wedding gifts for couples, whatever your budget.
How Much Should You Spend On Your Gift?
Now, this all depends on the wedding gift you plan on buying, but of course, there isn’t a solid answer to this question, as prices vary depending on the gift at hand. And of course, your relationship to the newlyweds will affect the price too!
According to recent surveys, as the average cost of a guest is around £500 (for a bigger wedding of course), guests should be willing to spend a couple of quid (that’s an understatement) on the couple. Immediate family and friends should expect to pay £100+ for their gift. All of the other all day guests between £50 – £100 and reception guests between £20 – £30. Although, of course, bringing a gift is optional!
Is it Rude to Not Buy Someone a Wedding Gift?
Again, another valid question to ask, and in all honesty, this really depends on the couple at hand and the kind of person you are. For some, gift giving is their love language, meaning they express their love and support for the people they care about by buying them gifts. But for others, material objects aren’t important, and making memories is the part that counts.
So, while it is polite to bring a wedding gift along with you to give to the newlyweds, it wouldn’t be right to say it is ‘rude’. As not all couples will be expecting/want their guests to bring them in the first place. The best advice we could give you is to read the room!
